Ontario Commits $30M For a New School in the Angus Glen Community
The Ontario government is investing $30 million CAD in the York Region District School Board to construct a new Angus Glen South Elementary School. Scheduled to open in 2028, the school aims to meet the needs of working families by providing space for 638 students and 48 licensed childcare spots.
The Angus Glen South Public School project is part of a $1.3 billion plan announced by Education Minister Stephen Lecce, which includes building new schools, expanding existing facilities, and adding childcare spaces. This initiative is part of the Capital Priorities Program, marking the largest single-year investment in education infrastructure in Ontario's history.
Minister Lecce stated that the government is doubling down on funding for new school construction, representing the largest single investment in school construction in Ontario's history. He added that the government is making significant investments to build the homes, schools, and communities needed across the province, ensuring children have access to schools equipped with advanced facilities and are prepared with real-life and vocational skills for the future.
The Angus Glen South Elementary School is expected to be located in the Angus Glen community at the northwest corner of 16th Ave and Kennedy Rd in Markham, within the current boundary of Buttonville PS B area (as shown in the map). The establishment of this new school will not only provide quality educational resources but also promote overall community development, bringing more convenience and opportunities to local residents. With the implementation of this series of investments, the area's position as a leader in educational innovation and excellence will be further strengthened.
